From School Library Journal

Grade 4-6-- Three of these four volumes on the various theaters of World War II are competently written. Problems arise in Guadalcanal, which is replete with errors. The island is infested with crocodiles, not alligators; Sealark Channel, not Skylark Channel, is the shipping land just off shore where many furious sea battles were fought; the American Admiral discussed is Richmond Kelly Turner, not Richard K. Turner; defending American Marines are described on one page as being "well trained and battle ready," and on another as "nervous and inexperienced"; and there are many other questionable statements and incorrect captions. The other volumes are useful and informative. However, the title Jungle Warfare is misleading, as the book is concerned solely with the Anglo-American effort against the Japanese in the China-Burma-India theater, and has nothing to do with other areas where the jungle figured prominently in the fighting, such as New Guinea. All books contain historical black - and - white photos that extend the texts (when properly captioned). --Rick Moesch, Hamburg Public Library, NY
