Trailblazers scour the earth for the best places to explore, and yet they often overlook their own backyards. 60 Hikes within 60 Miles: Cleveland blows the lid off the myth that you can't have a great hike close to home. The Cleveland area may be an ever-expanding metropolis, but there are still plenty of super hiking options: short hikes, long hikes, hikes for kids, urban hikes, rural hikes, wildlife hikes, historic hikes, and many others.
Whether you live in Cleveland, Akron, Canton or the "burbs" in between, this guide provides the information necessary for you to choose the perfect day hike, as well as maps, directions, trail lengths, hiking times, highlights, and a wealth of detail about the trail itself. So lace up those boots, sling that pack, and hit the trail!

From the manor house parking lot, head south through stone gates to the herb garden. Established in 1986 by the Quail Hollow Herbal Society, the garden includes a rose arbor and in the center, a traditional sundial. The beds are divided in traditional wagon-wheel style, with plantings of irises, lambs ear, and oriental poppies that bloom from late May through early June. Several benches in the herb garden provide rest in the shade of tall trees, and offer a view of the manor house.
From the herb garden, turn left (east) and step onto the short Tall Grass Prairie Trail. As you might expect, it follows a mown grass trail amid taller prairie grasses. Soon you'll turn right, stepping onto Sedge Marsh, a half-mile trail that bends south and then west. Along the trail you'll find sweet flag and cattails, and perhaps see some of the many frogs (spring peepers, chorus frogs, and American toads are common here) or birds that frequent this marsh. In the summer, watch and listen for yellow warblers.
