From Booklist

The Grammar Basics series tackles a subject that many kids might find intimidating. Thankfully, these titles on parts of speech approach their topics in a straightforward, charming manner that is perfect for young readers. Each book defines the part of speech and identifies the different forms it can take. Adverbs tell how, when, where, how much, or why, and they can end in -ly or be comparative or superlative. Repetition and the use of spare, clean text, appropriately accented with boldface and italicized words, keep the message clear. Simple example sentences demonstrate how the target part of speech is used. The photo illustrations, many of which feature cute animals, add a touch of whimsy. The photos are not just eye-catching, though, they also provide effective support for the example sentences. Each book ends on a fun note with a “grammar game,” such as Simon Says, I Spy, or a version of Mad-Libs. Grades 2-4. --Miriam Aronin
