PreS-Gr 1--Large print, easy vocabulary, and lots of repetition point these books toward very early readers. However, the lack of plots and, for Socks and Monster Stew, one long sentence for the entire book make them barely adequate for this purpose. Bright covers and full-page color illustrations will attract children, but there is little here to convince them that reading a book is worth the effort. The "Early I Can Read" series (HarperCollins) has many titles that are preferable. Pass on these.
