Reviews

Grade 9 Up-- Four-to-six articles cover the different aspects of each topic, pro and con, on when life begins, abortion as a personal choice, morality vs. immorality, and whether abortion should remain legal. Terkel's Abortion: Facing the Issues (1988) and Wharton's Abortion (1989, both Watts) are similar in scope but do not cite the origin of the information when it is presented so readers cannot as easily evaluate it. Like others in the series, this entry is excellent for reports, debates, and for teaching critical thinking skills. Each chapter has a periodical bibliography; the book also includes a list of organizations to contact for more information and an exercise for developing the ability to empathize with all points of view. Illustrations are educational; many are editorial cartoons. --Kathryn Havris, Mesa Public Lib . , AZ
