Grade 8 Up-- A important aid for studying the Persian Gulf War. Each of the five sections focuses on a question about the military lessons of the war, media coverage, etc. Within these sections, answers are organized by pro and con positions, culled from articles published and speeches made before, during, and after the war. They are short and easy to read; more importantly, they are interesting. Journalists, lawyers, professors, and even the president are among those represented. With all the book has to offer, it has a regretful lack of opinions from Americans on the street or voices from the Middle East. Nearly all of the writers are affiliated with U. S. government policy makers, naval institutions, think tanks, or universities. Students will be forced to infer that even among this diversity of opinions, these are still selected opinions. Nevertheless, this is a valuable contribution to the literature on this subject, and could be used effectively in classrooms, as a library resource, and as a text for both student and adult study groups. --Nancy E.
