Reviews

Gr. 5-8. Journal writing is gaining new popularity as teachers encourage it as a way to learn writing and reading skills. This helpful, compact book tells children how to go about keeping diaries and gives examples of diary entries authored by familiar writers (Anne Frank, of course; Louisa May Alcott; and the author herself) as well as children. Among the topics covered are the practical--how to keep the journal away from prying eyes--and the more subjective--for instance, how to put feelings into words. A very useful book; libraries where journal writing is in the curriculum may want more than one copy. Ilene Cooper
