Thomsett has written more than a dozen business reference works, including Investments and Securities Dictionary ( LJ 3/1/87) and Webster's New World Investment and Securities Dictionary (reviewed above). Here he provides a dictionary of over 1000 words and phrases used in the insurance industry. He also includes a directory of addresses for state insurance commissioners and Canadian provincial agencies, as well as a list of abbreviations. Definitions range from three to four lines to half a page, with cross-references to several related terms. Although he does not include as many terms as Lewis E. David's Dictionary of Insurance (Rowman, 1984. 6th ed.), definitions are longer, and in some cases, clearer. Valuable for business students and general readers, as well as insurance professionals.
