This concise, clearly written guide describes the seven species of hard ticks and five species of soft ticks that one is likely to encounter in the United States. Included are the American and brown dog ticks, the deer tick (carrier of Lyme disease), and the lone star, relapsing fever, and Rocky Mountain ticks. Each tick is illustrated by a color photo. Chapters 1-6 present the ticks, animal hosts, habitats, and life cycles, as well as the symptoms of and treatments for the diseases they transmit. Chapters 7-10 discuss tick repellents, tick control methods, and tick removal. There's not much in print on this topic for general readers, so this will be a good, inexpensive resource for public libraries.
