Seller: M RICHARDSON RARE BOOKS (PBFA Member), Ashby cum Fenby, NE Lincolnshire, LINCS, United Kingdom
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. In decent clean condition with no inscriptions. The blue cloth boards are clean with crisp title lettering on spine. That said there is evidence of a water spill which, on closer inspection, has caused a darker patch on the back board. The dust jacket is clean enough looking although edge worn and sun faded. It has also been effected by the same water spill which has caused the dye of the cloth to bleed onto the inside of some of the back cover and also onto the back paste down page. On the whole still a very decent copy despite these flaws. Seller Inventory # 010985

E C Coleman served in the Royal Navy for 36 years which included service in an aircraft carrier, a submarine, and Nelson's flagship, HMS Victory. During that time he mounted four Arctic expeditions in search of evidence from the 1845 Sir John Franklin Expedition. He twice visited South Georgia, calling at several points on the Shackleton route. In January 2000 he was selected to join an admiral in representing the Royal Navy at the Arctic Millenium celebrations in north Alaska. This resulted in a walk through temperatures (including wind factor) of -114 degrees F. At one time known as 'Bomber County' because of the large number of aerodromes for Bomber Command, and the ceturies old connections with the army in lincolnshire Regiment, Lincolnshire has nevertheless a no less interesting, even though rather less evident, naval history that the author has sought out and brought together here. For those interested in the Royal Navy, or in Lincolnshire, this is a fascinating book.
