Originally designed as a commercial transport, the Constellation first flew as the C-69 military transport in 1943, twenty of these being delivered to the USAAF. The commercial L.049 was built from the components of the cancelled C-69, and introduced such advanced features as pressurization, hydraulic power-boosted controls, and reversible pitch airscrews. Gradually the type was developed by various increases in weight, power, fuel capacity, weight load, etc. ending with the L.1649 Starliner. A total of 856 were built, of which 623 were Super Constellations and L.1649s with the last aircraft being built in 1958. The Connie served with the USAF and the USN in Korea and Vietnam. This book includes hundreds of pictures and all production information.
