First published in 1956, this reissue has an important new preface with notes in which the author reports on the many new catalogues which have been discovered since 1956. Dr. Jayne's description of each catalogue includes the date and size of the collection, the number of manuscripts it contains, the subject represented, the kind of arrangement, and any special information that the catalogue gives, such as press marks, prices, or indices. This book has opened the door to a treasure house of fresh primary sources for the study of English intellectual history and bibliography.
