The whole story has never been told in the West, now, it is. for the first time; the tragic life of Aisin~Gioro P'u~yi, the Hsuan~t'uno Emperor, who ascended the Dragon Throne in 1908 at the age of three and who was swept along through the bloodshed of successive revolutions on into the chaos of the war~lord period. He continued to preside over a miniature court within the Forbidden City until 1924 when the Imperial Family were evicted at gun~point by the Nationalist 'Christian General'; exile followed, until in the 1930's he became Emperor of Manchukuo under the Japanese; at the end of the second World War he was imprisoned by the Soviets in Siberia; followed by another ten years in Chinese Communist prisons. He died as recently as 1967 as a humble clerk in his former capital Peking, where he had once been the 'Son of Heaven' and the 'Lord of Ten Thousand Years'. The author has drawn mainly on untranslated Chinese sources, including the ex~Emperor's own writings. The resulting biography is a masterwork of historical documentation which presents the true facts for the first time in the West. It is an unforgettable and heartrending story told in a fast~moving documentary style, a story that will remain in the reader's mind long after the last page has been turned. Many rare and historic photographs are included throughout the text. Seller Inventory # 6272301
