The book begins with the history of noxious weeds legislation in 1856, the Thistle Act of 1890 and continuing up to the current Act. Seperate chapters deal with the principles of weed control and the properties and uses of available herbicides. The bulk of the book consists of a comprehensive survey of the 90 proclaimed noxious weeds in Victoria:their classification, appearance, life cycle, methods of propagation and dispersal, the properties which make them noxious in the Australian environment. Recommended control practices for each weed are clearly described. In addition there are some fascinating sidelights on name derivations and the reasons why the various plants were first introduced. With over 90 col, and 180 bw, photos showing weeds at various stages of growth making identification easier. Also maps showing distribution of all noxious weeds throughout the state. Size: 4to.
