Former curator for the LBJ Presidential Library has provided a wonderful book of personal accounts of some of those who we fondly all and remember as "The Greatest Generation". Of course, being the daughter-in-law of one of the individuals included doesn't cause any bias. And, that the Purple Heart on the cover is one of two that he received doesn't make me want to bust with pride either. Comparing what this generation did for our country makes me wonder what THEY think when they compare their personal sacrifices only to see today's government officials collecting pay while they play games that are causing severe negative results to the people they were put in office to represent. Even the German and American forces called for a cease fire on December 24th and mingled with one another. I was told it was awfully hard to go back the next day and fire on those you spoke with the night before. Maybe it's a lesson for Washington D.C.

Review:
This book contains not only great pictures from WWII, it also contains the accounts from personal interviews and diaries of those men and women who served our country so selflessly from the attack on Pearl Harbor through V-J Day. On a personal level, I was introduced to the book by my father, who served in the Navy. My father received a copy of this book as a gift from the pilot he flew with off the aircraft carrier, The USS Wasp, in the South China Sea and the Mariannas. The pilot, Captain Everette Fulton, provides his personal narrative, as well as his personal diary from his experiences during his service on the USS Wasp. Captain Fulton focused on a mission that my father was on with Captain Fulton, when their plane was the only aircraft to return to the USS Wasp from the mission. Captain Fulton and my father, Airman Lawrence P. Quinlan, received the Distinguished Flying Cross for that mission. Before my father received this book from Captain Fulton, and shared the book with his family, we had never known about this heroic experience in my fathers' life. There are many great accounts of heroism among the personal recollections of this historical time in our country's history, and is a personal and emotional narrative of historical value for anyone, especially history buffs. --By deedeedinah
