In four photographic movements entitled Landscape, Cathedrals of England, Urban Geometry, and Slit Canyons, Barnbaum explores shapes and the architecture of both manmade forms and the landscape

Oversized and richly printed in tritone, this book presents, in four carefully edited "movements," classical photographs of the landscape, English cathedrals, urban architecture, and the Southwest's amazing slit canyons. In an introduction to each section, Birnbarum suggests musical corollaries for his subjects. His prose doesn't sing, but never mind; the photographs more than speak for themselves. Detailed technical information is included for the ambitious reader. Recommended. Suzanne Kotz, Publications Dept., Seattle Art Museum
