Synopsis

Today, people want to know more about those things which in anyway touch their lives and especially the lives of their children. One real measure of a society is in the degree and dedication parenta or guardians will extend themselves to educate their children.

To these parents or guardians and to the teachers who are a vital part of the process, you are to be commended. Also to the children who show their appreciation with love, acts of obedience and gratitude, you especially are to be commended.

In the process of writing this book, the objectives below remained clearly in mind:

To teach by relating what is new and mysterious to things which are familiar and well understood.

To write for a general audience with emphasis on people who are truly interested in extending themselves.

To remind you how to handle the intimidation which surrounds the computer.

To simplify the Computer by relating it to everyday experiences, household items and by using ordinary words.

To present the material in an orderly and simplified manner so that understanding will be limited only by one's interest.

To provide the best start for those who might be: seeking a career in computer technology, planninh to buy a computer, starting to use one, looking to improve skills on one you already have, interested in becoming computer literate or maybe just trying to satisfy a little curiosity.

From Chapter 1: Understanding the relationship which exists between all fields, both professional and occupational, is not only educational but also very essential for getting more benefits from a Computer. This point becomes very evident as you learn more about the computer and are exposed to the relationships the computer influences you to uncover.

Finding a relationship can result in a new invention. It can open doors to economic opportunities and help unlock ideas stored in your brain. It is the relationship which most of us fail to detect or remember. Relationships go unnoticed when more attention is focused on the simplicity of the example instead of the relationships being developed. It is hoped that your emphasis will shift to learning by relationship so that it will aid you and enhance your perception of the computer through those things which relate to it.

Relationships are like kinsfolk not all of them are close and familiar. They are the road to new products which you must seek to find. How many people are now able to see the RELATIONSHIP between the spinning cord and the cutting of grass? This find resulted in the invention of a device which cuts grass.

I am reminded of the empty two liter plastic soft drink containers which were accumulating in a utility area as my search for a use for them continued. One day I needed a funnel and it was then that their RELATIONSHIP to a funnel was realized.

The properties of those unseen things in the computer were discovered and used in electronics long before the present day computer ever became a reality. However, the importance of these properties suddenly assumed a new technical significance as their value to a computer was fully realized.

As the popularity of the computer eventually gained momentum, the unseen things did not receive the publicity and promotion even though they provided the foundation and the support necessary to build it. Much like the unseen cook in the restaurant's kitchen whose cuisine pleases the customer, who in turn rewards the waitress with the big tip.

When a "feel" for the unseen things is acquired with the aid of RELATIONSHIPS, this will help to improve perception. Then, with a better "feel" and an enhanced perception for the very small, the very fast and the very many, this will provide an excellent learning foundation on which to build.
