David Muench has made images of the natural drama of the American landscape for decades using large format cameras. His fine art prits have been displayed in gallery and museum exhibits, and hang in many private collections. His images have appeared in numerous publications including Arizona Highways, Outdoor Photographer, Wilderness Sierra, View Camera and may others.
As one of America's most revered landscape photographers, his most recent exhibit-format books prior to ARIZONA are OUR NATIONAL PARKS, WINDSTONE, PRIMAL FORCES, CALIFORNIA and COLORADO. He also collaborated with his son, Marc Muench on the book, PLATEAU LIGHT.
He lives with his wite, Ruth Rudner in New Mexico.
"I recently came across a copy of the log of the first air-driven boat up the Colorado River in Glen Canyon... July 3, 1938...Passengers Josef Muench, Joyce R. Muench and David Muench. I was twelve. It was a six mile hike to Rainbow Bridge. Twenty-one years after that excursion, Glen Canyon was drowned beneath Lake Powell. My trip, which can never be repeated, became a part of history, while Glen Canyon now exists only in the photographs of my father and other early Arizona photographers, and as memory, one more part of the human-altered landscape."
