Synopsis
On Assignment takes us onto a fishing boat in the North Atlantic in midwinter, into a community of African Jews in Ethiopia, or underground Virginia coal miners. Arthur Leipzig's assignments have led him from the streets of New York to the mountains of Central America. In each of these remarkable photographs, Leipzig captures decisive and dramatic images of the subject, but also goes beyond each assignment to reveal the hearts and souls of the people he has met.

About the Author
Arthur Leipzig was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1918. His photographs have been featured in numerous exhibitions including Edward Steichen's landmark Family of Man (1955) and the Expo 57 exhibition Man and His World (1967). He also spent many years as a photojournalist for such magazines as Fortune, Look, Parade, Natural History, and the Sunday New York Times. He is professor Emeritus at Long Island University where he taught for 28 years.

Dust Jacket Condition: dj. First Edition. First edition and first printing. Hardcover. 183 pages. Features a foreword by Anne Wilkes Tucker. A career retrospective from this New York photographer. A near fine copy in red cloth board with some slight tapping to the bottom corners and in a near fine dust jacket with some very minor wear. Signed and warmly inscribed by Leipzig to a curator who is also an author and photo-historian and with a laid in holiday card from Leipzig as well. A nice association copy. Signed.
