Synopsis
Historian John M. Carroll has provided a new interpretation of General Custer's tenure in Texas following the Civil War. Custer, long regarded either as a hero who died with his troops at the Little Bighorn, or a foolhardy commander who permitted his troops to be massacred, comes to life as a wise and successful military leader during Reconstruction. Carroll bases his study on the first nine chapters of Libbie Custer's Tenting on the Plains, interrupting her narrative at times to refute or support her statements with documentary evidence or the reports of others who were on the scene. Bound in the publisher's original blue cloth over boards, spine stamped in red and gilt. Illustrated throughout in black and white.
