Extremely detailed drawings that were used to construct and maintain Union Pacific's Class 4-8-4 steam locomotives: the roaring "800s". These powerful engines, developed by UP and ALCO, were capable of speeds of 120mph and could produce between 4000 and 5000 drawbar horsepower. UP's No. 844 (formerly 8444), often used as the lead engine on modern steam excursions, is from this class. Photographed from the original UP records, these schematic diagrams -- many of which fold out -- are not only of historical interest but also of use to the modeler or builder of live steam engines. 50 pages. Oversized (17" x 11"). Scarce.
