"Like much of the San Joaquin Valley, the region surrounding Stockton was originally covered with broad, flat grassland interspersed with park -like groves of valley oak trees. Only vestiges of these stands remain today and are preserved mainly in Oak Grove Regional Park on Eight Mile Road near Interstate 5, Caswell State Park on the Stanislaus River near Ripon, and Micke Grove Park near Armstrong Road and Highway 99."
