This collection of essays addresses the methods by which counselors and therapists can ameliorate the grieving process that many divorced people must endure. The basic theme is that many divorcing people must mourn the loss of the relationship in ways analogous to the emotional process undergone by those whose partners have died. Chapters address issues such as the sense of betrayal, loss of self, special problems of women, and suicide prevention. With the exception of an interesting chapter on coping with the death of an ex-spouse, there is nothing new here. A better choice for professionals is The Divorce and Divorce Therapy Handbook , edited by Martin R. Textor (Jason Aronson, 1989). A number of self-help books address problems of the "newly single"; Bruce Fisher's Rebuilding: When Your Relationship Ends (Impact Pubs., Cal., 1981) is a good choice for public libraries.
