Eknath Easwaran was a successful writer, lecturer, and professor of English literature when he came to the U.S. on the Fulbright exchange program in 1959. He founded the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation in 1961, and has taught these and other classics of world spirituality ever since, as part of his program of meditation. A scholar who has read widely in the world's spiritual literature, Easwaran has translated many of the passages in this book himself.
