The latest volume in this attractive series, now in its fourth year, presents two or more favorite recipes from 27 carefully selected cookbooks. The first two annual installments grouped the recipes by book, replicating the formats of the individual books; here, they are arranged in a more user-friendly fashion, by course, but color photographs from the winning cookbooks are still included. All of the recipes were retested in the Food & Wine kitchens, and "Test Kitchen Tips" are included, as well as wine recommendations when these did not appear with the original recipe. Houghton Mifflin's "Best American Recipes" series includes recipes from magazines, newspapers, and the Internet as well as cookbooks (but no photographs); both series are worth having as handy collections of great recipes and, particularly in the case of the "Food & Wine" series, as an introduction for some readers to cookbooks they may not have seen.
