In his own life, Jules Masserman moved from a career in psychiatry and neurology into the broader realm of social science. Similarly, this book starts with a series of vignettes and letters to and from colleagues in psychoanalysis and psychiatry, and then moves on to a similar chapter on social science. In the second half of the book, Masserman broadens his focus to include general principles for writers and editors in the sciences, pithy observations on content and style, and philosophical thoughts drawn from his years communicating with other social scientists abroad. Dr. Masserman brings a half century of experience as scholar, researcher, writer and editor to this guide.

About the Author
Jules Masserman has published hundreds of articles and sixteen books on neuropsychiatry, history, sociology and philosophy. He has received the prestigious Albert Lasker Research and Sigmund Freud Analytic awards, has been president of five national and international scientific societies. His recent death at age 90 has deprived the world of a great and courageous thinker.
