PreS Up The text and illustrations of this particular edition of Little Red Riding Hood do not deserve the expensive treatment that they have been given. Issued as an ``heirloom'' edition, it's a well-crafted facsimile reproduction of a 1925 editon. Printed on buff-colored, heavy paper, each page of the large-print text has an accompanying color illustration done in a pretty, rather sentimental style with a 1920s look. The Perrault story has been amended, so that after the wolf says ``What big teeth you have,'' he becomes entangled in the bedclothes while Little Red scampers to safety on top of grandmother's canopy bed frame. Soon the woodsman appears with grandmother, who had escaped earlier, and he kills the wolf. Grandmother is so grateful to the man that she gives him her home and arranges a big tea party in the village. While this is an attractive book and does, as the dust cover suggests, eliminate the ``violent details in the original French tale,'' it also eliminates much of the sense and life of the original story.
