Allen E. Ivey received in Ed.D. from Harvard. He is Distinguished University Professor (Emeritus) at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and is currently President of Microtraining Associates, an educational publishing firm. An A.B.P.P. in counseling psychology, Dr. Ivey is a past-president and Fellow of the Division of Counseling Psychology of the American Psychological Association and is been a life member of American Counseling Association. He is also an elected Fellow of the Society for Ethnic and Minority Affairs of APA. The originator of microcounseling and Developmental Counseling and Therapy (DCT), he has won wide recognition and national and international awards including A.C.A.s Professional Development Award. Author or co-author of over 25 books and 200 articles, his works have been translated into at least 13 languages. He did original work on the multicultural implications of the microskills in 1968-74 and has been increasing his work in multicul! tural studies ever since. He is co-author of A Theory of Multicultural Counseling and Therapy (with Derald Wing Sue and Paul Pedersen).
Spirituality and multicultural counseling is a recent extension of Mary and Allen Iveys work on interviewing skills plus multicultural and developmental thinking. Allen Iveys most recent writings have focused on Psychotherapy as Liberation and on generating a theoretical/practical approach for working in a positive developmental frame with so-called pathology and DSM-IV. He is an active member of Mebyon Kernow, the nationalist party of Kernow/Cornwall, Greater Britain.
