Meet Samuel Herbert Dougal, a lady-killer if there ever was one. And say hello to Henry More Smith, an escape artist who could upstage Harry Houdini. These are just two of the shady characters who take centre stage in Crime Wave, a rogues' gallery of pirates, swindlers, bank robbers and murderers who plied their trade in Nova Scotia (Pottersfield Press, 1991).

Short-listed by the Crime Writers of Canada for the Arthur Ellis Award, for best Canadian true-crime book, and a finalist for the City of Dartmouth Book Award.

About the Author:
Dean Jobb, a news editor with the Halifax Chronicle-Herald and Mail-Star, covered the courts for four years and has written extensively on the justice system, past and present. His first book, 'Shades of Justice: Seven Nova Scotia Murder Cases', won the Evelyn Richardson Award in 1989 for best non-fiction book written by a Nova Scotia author.
Review:
"Chronicles the infamous characters of the province's past, and does a fine job of bringing these personalities and their escapades to life .... Jobb has a deft way of telling (stories) without complicating matters, and he allows their grim humour to filter through without trivializing the very real crimes behind the stories ... Crime Wave is an easy read, but it also has enough substance to stick with you long after you've finished it." - Books in Canada

"Splendid characters step off the pages of Jobb's book with a vividness that attests to his skill as a journalist who knows a good story - and who knows how to tell one." - The Chronicle Herald

"Meticulously researched ... Jobb has offered up some good Christmas reading." - Atlantic Provinces Book Review
