Synopsis
Paperback, 6" x 8 7/8", 178 pages. In a small settlement in Northern Quebec, conflicts between federal and provincial authorities, and lack of communication between Indians, Eskimos, English-speaking Canadians and French Canadians results in a series of farcial, pathetic, and tragic situations. "Ahmi" is an Inuit word translating roughly as "It can't be known in advance what lies beneath the snow or beyond the horizon."

It is set in northern Quebec -Sims Settlement - and is therefore able to play the Indian forces against the Eskimo, and the English against the French. And everybody against Ottawa. Meet Annie Monday, Indian Johnee, Davidee David, Mademoiselle Marcot - the teacher, and Con McKeen - the pilot. Rippon's dialogue will put you squarely at the center of this small (fictitious) northern community - complete with its Hudson's Bay Store. Cond : Paper wrapper is white with black (and blue) lettering and decoration. Cover drawing is of the community and its scattered oil drums. Also a photo of the dog Ahmi - which translates somewhere between dreamy and unknown. Volume is square tight, and bright, with minimal wear. P/O name on half-title. Excellent reading copy.
