Synopsis

Is science truly neutral? In Science and Liberation, a groundbreaking anthology of critical essays, Rita Arditti, Pat Brennan, and Steve Cavrak challenge the myth of value-free science. They reveal how scientific knowledge?its development, funding, and application?is deeply entangled with power structures, from corporate and military interests to institutional racism and sexism.

Drawing on diverse case studies, the contributors examine the role of universities in weapons research, the composition and control of the scientific workforce, and the persistence of bias within supposedly objective disciplines. But this book goes beyond critique. It also dares to imagine?and propose?a ?liberating science?: one that aligns with social justice, democratic accountability, and ecological sustainability.
