Before the days of calories, in the Foothills of Alberta, " halfway to everywhere", Jean Hoare ran a restaurant called the Flying N. She opened first in 1960 in her home. THESE 249 pages are her secrets and her memories. A local classic !! Learn how she made : The Only Good Bombe, Chicken in the Gold, Frozen Horseradish Cream, Cookie Clowns, and Yukon Hot Cakes. Text is interspersed with bright colour photographs of the prepared dishes. Sections on ; Drinks, Appetizers, Poultry, Cakes and Frostings, Fish, and Pasta & Rice - among others. (I can still recall the tastes.) Cond : Card cover is bright pink w/ white wire coil binding. Cover shows Jean w/ one of her spreads - foothills in background. Mostly hard corners. Coil binding sound, colours bright, no cover stains. Internals also clean, binding VG+. No names nor marks - even in Notes Spaces provided. No tears, one slightly scuffed corner, Almost giftable ! ! Quote (p. 162) : " ._._. references to railroad cake in several different places. Nellie McClung, Western Canada's great lady, casually mentioned in one of her books that she had enjoyed railroad cake at a community picnic. The author retired in 1980; the cookbook was written after that. This is a signed (unverifed) copy! There is very little wear around the edges of this cookbook. The cover has a pink background, with a photo of the author in front of a huge platter of steaks etc, against a prarie and mountain background. The text is in marvelous condition.
