Grade 5 Up-- The ways in which animals design and build their homes are too numerous to present in one book, but this fascinating account does an excellent job of presenting many examples of nature's geometry, from fish to fowl. It illustrates how animal behavior influences home design and location and how problems such as drainage, insulation, heat, and waterproofing are solved. The book is organized into sections dealing with members of each animal group--insects, fish, birds, etc.--and the readable text is further enhanced by stellar reproductions of excellent color photographs. The coverage is more detailed than Crump's Animal Architects (National Geographic, 1987). However, that book is organized by types of structures and building materials. It would make a good complement to this new title.
