Myrna Kostash was born in Edmonton. The publication of her first book, All of Babas Children , had a profound effect on her life because it placed her squarely in the context of her ethnic community and gave her intellectual work its main focus. She has also written Long Way From Home (Lorimer, 1980), No Kidding (McClelland and Stewart, 1987) and The Doomed Bridegroom (NeWest, 1998). She continues to write for magazine and radio, and has had two stage plays produced.
"For the contemporary generation of Canadians. ["All of Baba's Children], more than any other book, has revealed the true nature of ethnicity, which has often been hidden under a veneer of assimilation."

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Myrna Kostash's All of Baba's Children is a penetrating and revealing look at the lives of those of Ukrainian ethnic identity in Canada. Although the book is focused on this population, the conclusions she arrives at are of interest to anyone looking into the long term effects of being an ethnic subgroup in a larger culture. The book melds together personal recollections with source documents and other materials to probe the pressures and conflicts this community has experienced in the past hundred years. Extremely valuable reading for those of Ukrainian descent in both the USA and Canada, but also of great value to sociologists studying ethnic minorities in these two countries. The story of one woman s personal discovery of her Canadian Ukrainian cultural origins and the impact of that invigorating discovery on her life A must read for those interested in the history of all the peoples who helped shape and enrich Canada with their unique cultures Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
