From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-- There are no cloudy skies in this book, although a young boy almost loses his best friend, Little Quack. But it turns out that Little Quack was just off having some "quacklings" and all ends happily. Lonely Jackie is surrounded by animals--Buck the pony; Buttercup, a clumsy calf; Woof the dog; and others--but they're all too busy to play with him. Thus, his parents give him a pet duck. The two roam the pastures and explore the barn where everyone is having babies--until Little Quack disappears. When Jackie finds his missing friend, he carries her 10 offspring in his floppy hat back to the barn where an old tub is filled with water and the 12 of them splash about, dispelling all thoughts of loneliness. The loose watercolor and ink drawings perfectly complement the story, giving credence to this unusual friendship and adding a dimension of sweet simplicity. The mutual affection between the characters shines through, as does the serenity of Jackie's existence. The young story hour crowd is sure to love this sunny depiction of farm life. -- Martha Topol, Interlochen Public Library, MI
