Total Loss is an anthology of selected accounts by some 40 people who have survived the loss of a yacht at sea. The stories are grouped under the principle causes of loss and each is followed by an analysis of the lessons to be learned.

Jack Coote is an experienced cruising yachtsman who has owned and sailed a variety of boats. He is a keen collector of literature on sailing, and in assembling this anthology he used his own very extensive library as well as other libraries and the files of yachting magazines throughout the world. Jack Coote is the author of East Coast Rivers, East Coast Rivers from the Air, and North Sea Harbours, and has compiled Down the Wind, an anthology of sailing literature.
For leisure reading, Total Loss is highly recommended. For anyone going offshore, it should be required reading.
