About the Author

Thomas L. Zeller, PhD, CPA, is an Associate Professor of Accounting and university scholar/teacher in the Department of Accounting at Loyola University Chicago. During the past 10 years, Professor Zeller has taught in the undergraduate, graduate, and executive education healthcare management program, as well as in the university's CPA Review Program. He currently teaches intermediate cost accounting, EMBA Financial Accounting, and accounting information system courses.

He has published numerous articles and presented several works addressing financial analysis, activity-based costing, and health care financial measurement issues. His research has appeared in several journals, including Strategic Finance, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Corporate Controller, International Advances in Economic Research, Business and Economic Review, Hospital Cost Management and Accounting, Business Horizons, and Healthcare Financial Management. He is a member of the American Accounting Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Brian B. Stanko, PhD, CPA, is Associate Professor of Accounting and university scholar/teacher in the Department of Accounting at Loyola University, Chicago, Illinois. During the past 10 years, Professor Stanko has taught in the undergraduate, graduate, and executive education programs, as well as in the university's CPA Review Program. He currently teaches intermediate accounting, MBA Financial Accounting, and MSA Issues in Financial Reporting.

Professor Stanko has published articles in a variety of journals, including Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Corporate Controller, CPA Journal, Journal of Applied Business Research, Healthcare Financial Management, Hospital Cost Management and Accounting, Business and Economic Review, International Advances in Economic Research, and Journal of Business Ethics. He is a member of the American Accounting Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Anthony Senagore, MD, MS, FACS, received his medical degree from Michigan State University and is a board-certified general and colorectal surgeon practicing at the Cleveland (Ohio) Clinic Foundation. He has served as both a CPT and Relative Values Update Committee advisor to the AMA as a representative of the American Society of Colorectal Surgeons. He has participated actively with these groups on the processes involved in developing new codes, documentation guidelines, and the ultimate valuing of these codes by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. He 12 years of experience in medical practice management, including experience with a small single-specialty practice and a large multispecialty academic group practice that has afforded him a unique perspective on the information required by a practicing physician in today's difficult economic climate.
