I Used to Be Normal, Then I Got Bored is a journey of one woman from a place of total insecurity and lack of self-worth into a strong, spiritual woman who travels in faith knowing that each step is Divine. Not only is it her story, but it is also a guidebook and an inspiration for others who may be suffering, or who know they want to break out of a life that no longer serves them but are still to afraid to take the leap. Arael is an example of how following your dreams and inner guidance can lead to a very fulfilling life. A quote she often uses is, "When you come to the edge of all you know, you are given one of two things, land to stand on or wings to fly."

Born and raised by a traditional family in southeastern Pennsylvania, Arael was born fearless, but by age three, she had become timid, quiet, and fearful of the world around her. Love was conditional in her own home, and in her traditional Roman Catholic church God’s love was also conditional and God was to be feared. She felt she was unloved. She tried to fit in but decided it was better to be alone and feel safe, so for the most part, she became invisible. She married young and a son in her early twenties. She worked hard, multi-tasking between full-time housewife and a mother with a full-time job. She sought peace and quiet to the point where she lost her individual voice and ultimately her “self.” Arael received her high school diploma and began working at a local college in the counseling and placement center. While she worked there, she also took some courses but her job, family and home came first. After four years on the job, an opportunity came up at a local inner-city high school in the counseling office. Knowing that she wanted to work with students from all backgrounds and beliefs, and loved being of service, she applied for the job. Even though she lacked a degree, she got the job because of her experience and the high recommendations from the Deans at the college. Life began revealing to her the gifts that can come from what appears to be a negative situation when during her first month at the high school, there was a teacher’s strike, which gave her the opportunity to read all the materials and get to know all the possibilities at the Career Resource Center before she actually had to do the job. Today as an independent and emotionally strong woman, she travels where she is needed and is open to what she needs to learn. Today she understands that no matter “how bad” life may look in the moment, everything will be good. She is still in the role of counselor and career placement, only today she helps others find their true purpose in life by using her intuition, interpreting other's dreams and helping them observe what is in the now for them so they can create the future they desire.
