By the day in 1964 that Hilda Charlton made her way to the dusy village of Hoshiarpur, she had spent 17 years in India -- years in which she had at first performed as a classical dancer and then traveled as a pilgrim from the Himalayas to Ceylon, studying with enlightened saints and masters under arduous conditions. Her quest in Hoshiarpur was the legendary Brighu Rishi horoscopes, written in Tibet thousands of years ago on copper tablets and rediscovered only in 1915. A search of the crumbling horoscopes that day uncovered her name, and her future was revealed to her: she would return to America and would become famous through classes she would teach and magazine articles she would write. And so it came to pass. For 23 years, until she passed on in 1988, she taught classes in meditation and prayer in New York City. And in fulfillment of the prophecy, she wrote articles for The New Sun magazine -- extraordinary articles of deep wisdom, humor and down-to-earth pra! cticality that have been republished in this book. The 19 articles include such topics as recognizing a true teacher, the promise of the New Age of God, healing through thought, and steps to deeper meditation. It also includes three interviews with her.

Hilda Charlton was a spiritual teacher, author, dancer and healer who touched and uplifted the lives of many thousands during the 23 years that she taught classes in meditation and prayer in New York City. Raised in London and Salt Lake City, she performed as a modern dancer for two decades in the San Francisco area. In 1947 she toured India as a dancer, and stayed there 18 more years, pursuing studies of Eastern mysticism and meditation. She returned to New York City, where her classes grew in size from two people to more than a thousand. Her teachings incorporated the fundamental principles of the world's major religions. Foremost she stressed the importance of a life of giving and forgiving, unconditional love, and remembrance of God. Her style combined humor, practicality, and deep insight into the human mind and spirit. She passed on in New York City on January 29, 1988.
