Ken McLean is an international pedigree consultant. Among his current clients is Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid al-Maktoum, ruler of Dubai. He now lives in Australia after spending time in Kentucky where he helped establish foundation stock for Overbrook Farm and managed the farm's high-profile stallion Storm Cat in his first three years. He is the author of three Thoroughbred breeding books: Tesio - Master of Matings, Quest for a Classic Winner and Genetic Heritage. In the past nine years his advice to clients regarding mare matings produced more than 200 stakes winners and 11 champions.
From Chapter 1: I have been making notes for thirty-five years about Thoroughbreds who play an extremely valuable role in the pedigrees of international classics and graded stakes. I have highlighted broodmares who deserve to be recorded as having unique genetic qualities that favour the production of superior athletics on dirt or turf. . . . These mares are the elite of the stud book. Their sons and daughters have proven to be the superior carriers of highly desirable traits for classic speed.
