This book is divided into four sections. In the first section, author Heber Bouland provides an overview of barns in America - tracing the origins back 500 years. The second section describes barn life during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when electricity and the internal combustion engine hadn't fully replaced horses and manual labor.
The third section details five of the great American barns, showing how they met the needs of their time and region. These barns include the log barn, the German bank barn, the adobe, the round barn, and the modern dairy barn. The final section is filled with pictures and covers barn beauty. It contains a wonderful color section showing barns in a variety of settings and seasons.
This isn't just another pretty picture books of barns (although it does have great pictures). Discover for yourself the historical richness of barns, understand barn life, and appreciate the beauty of barns. Over 200 photos, more than 30 in color.
