About the Author
Ed Hathaway is the Old Soldier, who served for 24 years in the U.S. Army. During World War II he served in a mechanized calvary regiment on duty in Austria along the border of the Russian Zone. The Korean war put him into medium tanks and he advanced to company commander. After the war he became a writer and instructor in the Intelligence School, and an intelligence analyst in the Soviet field. He fell in love with the Modoc War during several visits to Lava Beds National Monument and served as interpreter at the park.
