Hardcover. Condition: Fine. First Edition. Limited to 100 copies, and signed and dated by publisher Percy Booth on the title page. A native of Tennessee, Walker (1798-1876) became a frontiersman in Missouri before reconnoitering the Far West under Captain Benjamin Bonneville. Walker's detachment of Bonneville's company were the first white men to make a westward crossing of the Sierra Nevada (1833) and perhaps the first to see Yosemite. He later led an expedition with J.B. Chiles (1843) and was a guide on Fremont's second and third expeditions (1844, 1845-46). Six illustrations and a folding map, with textual decorations by Lawrence A. Patterson. Quarto. Original printed paper-covered boards over a brown leather spine, with a printed paper spine label.
