Zen Master (Ta Hui) Gilbert is a monk in the Cho Ke Order of Korea. He was born in Oakland, California in 1909 and began the practice of Pranayama Yoga at the age of fourteen. After years of various yogic practices, he became involved in Zen Buddhism.
In 1973, Master Gilbert was recognized as a Zen Master by his teacher, the Venerable Dr. Seo Kyung-bo of Korea, who later designated Master Gilbert as his Dharma successor in the United States. Master Gilbert teaches and conducts services at various Zen temples in the United States.
The author is also a cartoonist whose work centers around Zen themes. Master Gilbert feels that humor is an effective way to activate an intuitive knowing of the truth of ourselves.
