Synopsis

This book represents a culmination of ten years of research and writing. The need for a volume on United States paper money errors became apparent when I attempted to locate in-depth information about an error offered for sale. Although several paper money references included a chapter on errors and a monograph on the subject provided fine illustrations, no detailed or unified text existed. Discussion with other collectors revealed a similar sense of frustration. It seemed obvious that this specialized field of paper money not only deserved but required a reference work devoted to it. From the outset a conscious decision was made to produce a text that would stimulate and satisfy the inquisitive or advanced collector without intimidating the neophyte. Additionally, the book was designed to include previously unavailable data to assist the researcher or cataloger. I sincerely hope that these criteria have been met.
