This is the catalogue for an exhibition of the lacquer collection of Elaine Ehrenkranz at the Newark Museum in 1983. The boxes displayed represent extraordinary craftmanship and sophistication of design. The techniques used in Japanese lacquerware are still little understood in the West . Barbara Teri Okada's well researched and finely written introductory essay as well as her comments on individual pieces will help greatly to advance the knowledge in this field. This is a large and beautiful collection beautifully photographed collection of this fine art.
