From School Library Journal:
ea. vol: unpaged. Family Skills. Oct. 1985. PLB $9.95. PreSchool-Grade 3 Didacticism at its best (or worse) permeates these titles. Wonderful You introduces preschoolers to the three main characters in the series: Heada, a thinker; Heartly, who feels feelings; and Doofer, who likes doing. Very little is mentioned about "you" until the last page. The rhymes are forced, uneven and inane; almost all end with an exclamation point. The softly colored cartoon illustrations of Muppet-like characters do not redeem the text. The Feeling Fun House and A Lasting Friend feature the same three animals plus The Great Theysayer, who sends them on a "mission" at the beginning of each book. In one adventure, they attempt to build a better relationship between two siblings. A Lasting Friend takes them into a new home with Freddy, who needs help making new friends. The text is wordy, complicated and difficult to follow. With the focus on message rather than story, these books fall short of enticing children to their pages. Youngsters will find far more satisfying fare in the many novels and picture books which deal with friendship and peer/sibling relationships. Sharron McElmeel, Cedar Rapids Community School, Iowa
