The author, Seiko Huntington, has been teaching Japanese at colleges for over 15 years. She was born in Niigata, Japan and lived there until she graduated a college with an engineering degree while teaching Japanese to Americans and Canadians. She came to the U. S. and earned Ph.D. in physical chemistry, and worked as a research scientist. She is an author of Japanese language books and of various magazine and newspaper articles about Japan and science.
