Incredible as it may seem, there are still some relatively unexplored noncommercialized national parks within the continental United States. The authors of The National Seashores ( LJ 4/15/88) here focus their attention on 13 of the least known and least frequented of these. Extensively detailed descriptions of terrain, climate, native wildlife, and flora and fauna are provided, along with historical summaries of each area's early inhabitants and explorers. Directions to each park, tips on what to expect, see, and do, accommodations, and nearby tourist attractions are included. Each chapter ends with a handy pretrip preparation checklist designed to make the visit more enjoyable. Those expecting a complete history of the more than 350 officially designated national park locations are advised to look elsewhere. This is a guide for travelers in search of undisturbed rugged natural beauty.
