Staying Abreast is an uplifting collection of personal reflections and inspirational writings by breast cancer survivors, their families, and friends. The writings includes poetry, passages, and personal essays with contributions by several published authors, Ronnie Kaye (Spinning Straw Into Gold) and Marilyn Moody (Courage and Cancer). Dr. Leo Buscaglia, leading author and speaker, gave permission to the author (former student of his) to quote him. The writings are humorous, compassionate, and empowering.

Presently I am celebrating four years since my breast cancer diagnosis. What I have learned from my experience with cancer is many fold. First of all, my support system challenged the prognosis with me and with such love...each in his/her own way. Secondly, what I learned was to pursue my dream of publishing an inspirational book for the newly diagnosed as well as for anyone affected by breast cancer. Third, I learned to never give up hope and never to give up on reaching my goals. I did not let time stop me. Actually, these just made me work harder. In addition, I learned to treasure each day, for it is made special by what we can give it, by how we accept it, then how we live in it. Lastly, if there really is a last, I learned to feel empowered in making good decisions for my treatments and in my daily life and to acknowledge that enthusiasm creates vibrant health. What the loving support group, as well as the general public, needs to know is that we have not really changed who we are. We have become more sensitive to life and living. Truthfully, you are so very much appreciated. Oh, how the cards, the flowers, the meals for our family, the prayer chains really helped to heal us. Most importantly, dear ones, we will be there for you. For your information, by purchasing a copy of this book, a percentage of the profits will be donated to cancer projects. I wish to end with a quote by Oprah Winfrey, "Lots of people will ride with you in the limousine, but it is a true friend who will ride with you in the bus when the limousine breaks down." We do need each other, to support and enrich our lives. With comfort from our relationships, we are better able to hurdle what tomorrow may bring.
